H and i are willing to take semi permenant measures to limit the possibility that our kidswill be step kids in the future.

I am currently pregnant with my second. As soon as i can after this birth, I will have my tubes tied either during a c section or shortly after in a follow up appointment. In addition, My H has agreed and is fully on board with getting a vasectomy. We both want this equally.

CLARIFICATION :: He wanted to get a vasectomy before i said i wanted to get my tubes tied. THE more we talked Bout it the more we bkth realized we felt the same way. Btw we are both in our 30s

Weve gotten some strange looks on why were doubling down.

The main reason is because neither of us want more kids, ever. In the event of a divorce or death and remarriage or suprise pregnancy, we dont want to risk having more kids. A big reason is we want to prevent the possibility of our kids becoming step children in a situation where their mom or dad have another bio child.

ClARIFICATION: We get thst this qouldnt stop them having step parents but would limit the possibility of half siblings which is what we are against.

We feel that this would put them at a general disavantage because finding a step mom or dad to treat the spouses kids as their own alongside their bio kids is very rare. We also recognize that in the future if either change their mind, a vasectomy is reversible, and other options are avaliable.

Has anybody else had this thought?

Additional antidote: one of our best friends (29) just told us that her recently seperated from their mother, father (76) recently had a child unexpectedly with a new women. My friend now has an older brother (50) a younger full sibling brother (23) and a new baby brother (5mo). This recent side plot only reaffirmed our choice.
