Found out I have RH negative blood

Ka

Kathy

So my doctor called and said I have RH negative blood and that if I bleed at all during this pregnancy or if I have a fall and hit my stomach I need to get a shot immediately. I also have to get a shot at 28 weeks as well just to release antibodies in me.

This is concerning but if anyone else deals with this. Was it hard to deal with and I am scared of sitting down to fast or getting up and bumping my tummy. I’m only 12 weeks but just scared it could become something worse if I bump my tummy accidentally somehow. I rather just get the shot now to be on the safe side.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

You will be fine! I’m RH - and I’ve been pregnant 5 times. I’ve bumped my belly so many times I can’t remember. It has nothing to do with you hitting your stomach. It’s about the baby coming into contact with your blood if they are rh +. You have to get the shot at 28 weeks ( big needle but always painless to me) and after you give birth ( I believe if baby so rh +)

i'm RH negative as well, i haven't had any issues and i'm 35 weeks! got my shot at 28 weeks and then you'll get another one after you give birth if baby isn't also O-. it really isn't anything concerning or something you have to accommodate differently for, just the regular do's and dont's of any pregnancy.

yes you can still have sex unless your OB has told you otherwise! bumping your stomach won't do anything as there's lots of cushion protecting baby, the concern is only if you like fall down or get hit hard.

@r is it possible to have sex still when you have this? I’m nervous because if we bump stomachs or something it can cause issues

also the shot won't do any good for you now, they do it at 28 weeks because that's when the greatest chance of you and baby's red blood cells mixing which then could cause issues. but if you don't have any bleeding or injure your stomach bad then there's no cause for stress mama!

I’ve carried 3 RH+ babies and I’m RH-No one ever made me feel the way your doc made you feel. It’s not a problem for this baby. It will be a problem for your next rh+ baby if this baby is rh+. Hence the shot they’ll give you at the start of your third trimester and after delivery if baby is rh+ (they’ll test baby after delivery).

I don’t think it’s as serious for you to be so scared. As long as there’s isn’t any major concerns you and baby will be fine. I’m RH and have a strange blood type only 1% of the global population have. I went on to birth a perfect baby at 40.5W with my first (he’s positive blood type). Had an early miscarriage with my second and blood wasn’t the cause, I did request a shot even though that early on wouldn’t cause any worries for future pregnancies. Now in my third pregnancy and still isn’t a concern. The shot will be given later on, I think my doctor chooses to do it later than 28W but I cant remember, then another one will be given right after birth.

yes!! the whole time!! literally up until the day before my water broke i was having sex, serving tables, swimming in the pool, everything as usual. i didn’t treat it any different than a normal pregnancy. i even went to a water park and went in the rapid river when i was like 12 weeks(i had no idea i was pregnant yet)

Did you still have sex with this? I’m nervous if any blood might come out or if we bump stomachs by accident or something like that while we have sex
