Intermittent fasting vs controlled starving?

I see a lot of people rave about intermittent fasting when it comes to weight loss. Like they will only between 12-6pm and nothing before or after that. Well, I like to eat breakfast, so instead I try to eat a protein heavy breakfast and then go without lunch, and then eat another healthy dinner (and sometimes a desert). It’s working for me and I am losing weight. I told this to one of my friends and she told me I’m developing anorexia by skipping a meal. And that it’s “controlled starving”. Yet she does intermittent fasting! I was like how is that any different? Does that make any sense?
