Do you work in a toxic environment?

Every environment I’m in there’s people bullying and gossiping about other adults. I even witnessed this childish behavior at my daughters school. I’ve experienced this in nursing school. Maybe it’s because I’m in South Florida, I hate it so much.

I have before, yes. I don’t currently. In college I worked at a daycare/preschool and it was pretty gossipy, but nothing terrible. Then I moved to another state for medical school and worked in a different preschool and it was HORRIBLE. The director was racist and paid all the teachers different hourly wages based on how much she liked them. I’m in my final year of residency now and the clinic I work in is very laid back. Although one nurse hates my guts, I have no idea why. But you can’t please everyone lol.

i’ve only ever worked at call centers, but it’s like high school. gossiping, fights, sexual harassment. toxic af. i’ve learned to just ignore it all & worry about me & my money.

I used to work as a 911 dispatcher and it was the worst job I could ever imagine. Rotating shifts so once you get used to one shift, you have to adjust to a new one, so I got literally 5 hours average per night. That was the easy part. I was 19 at the time and it was my second real job and I was so eager and excited to learn and make decent money. The “ladies” there (more like bitches) were mostly all from hell and I was under the impression that everyone wanted me to fail with the way they treated me and talked to me. Zero sympathy and understanding. I was living like a zombie but still trying SO incredibly hard to succeed and there were a few main bitches who would criticize the way I looked one time. I was simply giving her respectful eye contact and she said “why are you looking at me like that. It’s really weird” and then mimicked me like I was a loser. I remember I wasn’t ready to be even near to taking calls by myself but it was 3 months into training and they said that was enough and put me on the floor in front of everyone and my trainer was listening and I did a million things wrong to where she had to take me off and I felt extremely ashamed and like I was the dumbest person ever. The way she was talking to me was like I was a fucking dog to be laughed at because I didn’t have the tools to succeed. There were some nice people but unfortunately the trainers were just old bags who obviously hated new people. One morning I woke up in a major panic attack and I talked to my family and my mom told me to gtfo of there while my dad was obviously disappointed in me since it was the “dream job”. I went to the director and bawled for an hour honestly, it was horrible, luckily she understood and said there have been girls who threw up before and during shifts from the stress and who didn’t sleep etc. And she was glad I didn’t let it get to that. Later I found out that everyone in my training class had eventually quit a few weeks after me, one by one. I wonder why the turn over rate was so high 🤔 other things happened on that job that I honestly just blacked out and cannot remember for the life of me because it was the worst 3 months of my life.

It’s wildly not toxic. Having been in a not great spot for some time before, I question everyone’s motive for being nice. It turns out they’re just all super nice.
