Does it hurt you if your parents have a favorite grand child?

For those who have kids.

I guess it depends how the grandparent goes about it. If they are being obvious & insensitive about it then sure that would upset the parent & grandchild. But if they simply have a closer bond with a grandchild because of proximity, things in common, etc then no that wouldn't bother me because that's how relationships work. You can be closer to some family members versus others but still love all of them.

I think it does. I was always obviously the favorite grand child and i can still the effect this had on my sisters and cousins. They still talk about it till this day and my grandpa has been gone over a decade. My cousins still mention how till his last days he would talk about me (i didn't get to see him before he passed 😔) and when i named my son after him none of my siblings or cousins were surprised 😅.

My parents do a pretty good job treating our I kids equally and not having a favorite. My in-laws do not and this summer it’s really started to wear on me. It’s no secret that our niece (the oldest) is their favorite and always has been. We even talk about it openly. But as my kids get older, they get ignored more. ￼half the time my FIL completely forgets our 2 year old exists (she’s the youngest and he still had no interest in meeting at 4 mo her even though he visited every other grandchild, including our son, while still in the hospital). 
My MIL cancelled a trip to the children’s museum with our kids (my son earned it as a reward for good behavior and he picked her to go with) to hang out with the favorite grandkid. It’s been three months and she has yet to go with him to the museum. Another time she said she’d be home so my husband could install a car seat they were borrowing to watch our kids. She decided to spend the night with the other grandkid instead. 
Couple weeks ago we drove an hour to her house to drop off our kids since she agreed to watch them while we had an anniversary weekend. She showed up to her own house 2 hours late, didn’t answer her phone and didn’t apologize. We were rushed to get to our dinner reservation (another 45 min away), so we didn’t have time to transfer car seats. Told her that she would just have to stay home with them. She said okay. My husband said he’d be there before church that Sunday and he was, but they had already left. In a vehicle. Without car seats. She put our 38lb 4 year old in a seat belt booster and our 31lb 2 year old in a 5pt booster. Neither of them are big enough for those seats. My husband isn’t confrontational, and I’m still pissed he didn’t talk more firmly to her. I told him I don’t feel safe with our kids being in their care without us because they clearly don’t prioritize their safety or time with them. 
I do feel sad for my kids because they are being treated as less than. My kids are amazing people, but they don’t know that because they don’t dedicate time or energy to them like they do other grandkids.

Answer

Nope. My mom has ten of them and she’s bound to have a better/closer relationship with one of them. Just like children too. That type of stuff doesn’t hurt my feelings at all because she still treats her kids/grandkids equally.
