Queen Elizabeth has died

As a US citizen, this still makes me incredibly sad. Not unexpected at her age, but still sad all the same. The next few weeks should be interesting as Charles steps into his new role.

So, will he or should be abdicate? Is he, at his age, with the controversy surrounding him, fit to be king? How do people really feel about Camilla being queen consort, despite previous statements of her only remaining a duchess etc.

I was born in Britain. I live in the USA now. I’ve never really liked the Royal Family but the Queen was something extraordinary. She was the best part of Britain. The Queen has met every president since Harry Truman and has been Queen for 15 Prime Ministers. It’s huge loss for Britain. I think her steady presence will be missed,

She protected her pedophile son and was close with Jimmy Saville and Jeffrey Epstein. She might’ve of been charming and elegant, but she did have a dark side.

Let’s not forget how much the British empire has stolen from other places as well.

Prince Andrew borrowed money from the queen to pay off Virginia Giuffre. They all pay off their victims so that it doesn’t go to trial.

I don’t understand why the UK still has/continues to want to have a Monarchy. Kings and Queens seem so primitive and historical. I admit I do not feel anything with her passing, but I am sorry for those who loved her. I just can’t grasp anyone wanting this family’s reign to continue. Have we not progressed as a society from deeming certain bloodlines “Royal”?

There are 12 monarchies in the EU. And they are all among the strongest, most stable countries of the European Union. Here, monarchy is perfectly compatible with democracy, it helps strengthen citizens and their values, somehow people in these countries are more united, more present and more like “modern day non conflicting calm nation”… since monarchs can speak to their citizens in ways not a lot of politicians can. Im from one of the EUs poorer countries, and generally look up to how these monarch countries function so well somehow. People there are way more happy, chill and stable. Especially the nordics.

I'm not British but I have been living in the UK for 10 years. Monarchy is a strange concept to anyone who isn't used to seeing it. I think the Monarchy represents stability, impartiality and tradition to some people. I don't think tourism is the reason we have Monarchs, not in the UK anyway. It's more about establishing certain values and 'soft power'. It will be interesting to see how the Royals evolve and how long will the Monarchy last.

I hope he doesn't abdicate. The job is a pretty tough and all consuming one. His mother was required to take it on at a very young age and this will have had an effect on her ability to concentrate on her family as much as she would have liked. Charles will be aware of this and know that her long life has given him the space to focus on family when it was required (and god knows they've had a rough ride). I hope and believe that he will want to protect his son from the top job for as long as possible, in order to give him the time to concentrate on bringing up a young family.I'm British. I quite like having a royal family, although I'm aware that's partly because I just like the odd tradition. However, with the list of recent buffoons we've had running parliament I'm quite glad we've (at least in recent years) had a level-headed head of state...and I believe Charles and William are both capable of providing similar service

I’m Canadian and under the monarchy and won’t forgive the queen for the atrocities to our indigenous, I understand losing family is hard, but I don’t mourn her one little bit.

My feeling is that Elizabeth II was the bridge between worlds old and new. She was a dignified, gracious and progressive monarch the likes of which will never be seen again. If the ancient tradition of English royalty ends with her reign that would be fitting

As an American I don't understand why so many people who have never even been to England let alone are effected by it care. It isn't any different than any other person who you don't know passing to me. I'm sure her loved ones will miss her but I am not her loved one and to me it is just a news story. My husband lived in London for 2 years while he went to college there and a lotnof his friends from there are split for/against the idea of a monarch in general but also just the reality of how much damage the British empire historically did. I know a few of his friends are worried a new king plus the queens death means huge amount of money going to royal events amd they aren't thrilled about that. While listening to his friends who are actually impacted by this is interesting to me it is just a news story that has too many drama layers. Maybe it is time the monarchy is either greatly lessened, altered or abolished...either way not sure why so many Americans are so enthralled with the Royal family. I know people who can't name a British prime minister but follow all the Meghan and Harry drama which to me makes it seem like America at least just sees the royal family as the worlds largest reality show. If you can't tell me who the new PM is but can tell me every designer who has made Meghan Markel a dress for a royal engagement I will probably ask why you care about a group of wealthy elites that have no impact on you lol

Honestly, I couldn’t care less. I mean I think it’s sad that she was someone mum, grandmother etc and it’s sad that they are grieving. But as for her role as queen, she had a good stint at it, but I have to say I’ve heard so many people say they are in shock they didn’t think it would happen….she was 96 for Christ sake 🧐 it was gunna happen at some point in the near future. I’m just excited to see what the new money will look like with the kings face on 🙈 xx

Also not sure why tv and radio stations have to be changed to have permanent coverage 🤷🏻‍♀️ was the same when Diana died I was a child and I just remember all my cartoons were cancelled for constant news x

Hmm I don't know why people think he should abdicate?! He isn't that controversial, and he is younger than some US presidents haha!

Apparently the divorce gets cancelled out if the spouse does or gets remarried, and as he waited to get married after Diana died, they think it's ok? Weird...

A lot of people also felt he couldn't take the crown because he is divorced: tradition normally is that a divorcee can't be on the throne

Oh yea, that ol' chesnut. It was really sad, but the last thing Charles wanted was her getting more attention 😂
