Where do you store you pancake syrup?

So I have always had pancake syrup stored in the cupboard my whole life, the consistency is just better and I guess I never really thought about the freshness because my mom kept the house super cold cause of her menopausal hot flashes. My fiance says it should be in the fridge, and showed me the bottle says to keep it in the fridge as well. I can't say I'm a big fan of how viscous and thick the consistency is with having the syrup in the fridge. I just want to know, am I the only one who prefers it in the cupboard/pantry as opposed to the fridge?
