When to go to labor and delivery instead of the ER?

My daughter was hospitalized with the flu and I’m pretty sure she passed it to me. Im 22 weeks pregnant and absolutely miserable. I feel insanely weak and dehydrated. I don’t want to go to labor and delivery and end up being told to go to the ER.

I wouldn’t go to either one. You could call your OB office and ask what warning signs to look for that would warrant a trip to them or the ER. For OB it’ll be reduced fetal movement, bleeding, etc. For ED it’ll be prolonged fever over 102, trouble breathing, etc.

Just drink something with electrolytes in it & A lot of it. Pedialyte, Gatorade, Powerade, coconut water. That's not ER worthy.

there is nothing thay can do thay will tell you to take it easy and keep your fluids up/keep hydrated there is no cure for the flu in pregnancy

Look for mobile IV nurses in your area, I had one come and administer fluids a few times when I was dehydrated from morning sickness (HG). They’ve become popular since COVID and it’d save you a trip to the hospital because that’s probably all they’d do there unfortunately. Call your dr too and ask their advice but I don’t think they can do much if you go in

I know at my hospital you go to ER until 32 weeks and then they send you to OB for ANYTHING - even if it’s not pregnancy related.

It’s an emergency room visit, but all they’re going to do is give you fluids. I wouldn’t waste my time or money or risk catching something worse while waiting at the ER. Just hydrate the best you can & go have your PCP or OB put you on fluids in their office tomorrow

Call the maternity unit. I get probably will tell you to come in for monitoring. And if they give you fluids that’s not nothing. It’s important to not be dehydrated. It’s dangerous to be dehydrated during pregnancy.
