Why do women come with expiration dates?

Melissa

I got married later in life and right when my husband and I decided to start trying for a baby I ended up having a lot of medical issues that came up that prevented me from even trying. Now that I am done with waiting and I’m off the toxic medications I had a conversation with my gynecologist. So I guess your reproductive system start to go bad at age 35 so being past the “expiration” date she informed me that it will be a-lot harder and way more complicated. She wouldn’t advise me not to try but to be prepared for possible miscarriages and if I do succeed possible birth defects and almost guaranteed preeclampsia. For reference I am 39. Is it their job to paint the most bleak outcome possible to dissuade you? Or is it just a reality check to go in informed and eyes wide open? You hear all the time about older women getting pregnant so I’m not sure if it’s wishful thinking and biology is against me or to have faith and persevere?
