Did you save/finance for more than one round?

We are headed into our first round of ivf and our finances are scraping the surface. We will make it work the first round but if that round were to not work, we won’t have any leftover. When you were planning for IVF, did you budget in more than one round? Please share.

We were encouraged to do 3 cycles, but couldn’t afford that option without finance.
We had to override our desperation for a child, and think logically.
- If it worked, could we comfortably afford everything we’d then need for the child? No.
- If it didn’t work, could we handle paying off the debt for months/years for something that devastatingly didn’t work? No.
So we used our existing savings to pay for just the one cycle. We got 4 mature eggs - one resulted in a 3-day fresh transfer (failed), and one 5-day blast that we’ve frozen (to transfer in Jan 🤞🏻)

I’m sorry it’s so unfair because it’s so expensive. We did our first round of IVF right after covid started and we lost most of our fertility savings when the stock market crashed. Luckily we were able to move some finances around to make it work, but it was painful at the time. We only had enough for one round at the time, but we knew we’d figure something out if it didn’t work in case we needed to do a second round.

We just got our estimate for out of pocket for IVF. I’m completely shocked. We have less than a 20% of chance of it working according to my RE and I’m just trying to decide if it’s worth it since we’ll probably only be able to afford one round
