Maternity leave benefits
Need advice.. I’m in Canada and am taking a 12 month maternity leave. All my health benefits are cancelled for my leave unless I pay 100% of the cost. Health and dental I’m not worried about since my husbands will cover me. But if I don’t pay to keep my long and short term disability, if something happened to me on my leave and I wasn’t able to return to work (illness, accident, etc) then I would have no coverage. They want $3500 paid upfront at the start of my leave to continue just the disability coverage. Would you do it? It’s a lot of money on a small chance that something happens to me. With all the expenses of a new baby I don’t really have $3500 laying around to pay them all at once. Plus I’ll be making half my
salary for the year of my leave so the extra money would come in handy. Any advice
