Hey moms,

I’m left in a dilemma which could really shape my child’s mentality and personality I feel like. She is 4YO and in JK and with winter obviously we dress warm, jacket hat mittens etc. my daughter has this really cute hat that’s like a balaclava in this pink plush material with bear ears on the top. She loves that hat, I love that hat and whoever sees her in it loves it too because her face looks so adorable.

She wore it for 2 days so far and the night before she tells me how some kids in class have been making fun of her and laughing at her hat. It really broke my heart to hear that. I first asked her whether she loved her hat and she said yes, then I asked if she loves how she looked in her hat and if it keeps her warm and she said yes. So I said if the kids laugh again you stand up for yourself and say please don’t be rude, and if they say it looks funny you say that’s okay I love my hat, and then tell the teacher of the incident. Now because of this she’s refusing to go to school again.

I could do two things:

1. Allow her to speak up for herself and stand strong

2. I change her hat so she doesn’t have to face that again

Or if there are any other suggestions please let me know
