Walking?
Is anyone else’s little still not walking full time? My son is 15 mo.
I want to preface this with saying my son has cancer, he’s in and out of the hospital frequently. I understand this should be the least of my worries but I don’t want him to fall behind developmentally if I can help it. He didn’t start walking prior because the brain tumor made him very wobbly and he fell ALOT. When he’s inpatient he is working with OT, PT, ST, MT, and others I’m sure but everyone agrees he’s more than on track yet I am still worried.
Prior to his diagnosis at just shy of 12 months he began taking steps between my sister and I and would let go and take a couple of steps towards an object he wanted. Once they removed the brain tumor he stopped even bearing weight for about a month (this is very normal, he was in a lot of pain). Now we’re 3 months out and he’s begun letting go of objects and taking steps but will not walk full time. He prefers to crawl especially after the dogs because it’s faster for him. He is however climbing (can climb the stair, his baby gate, his crib and up and down the couch as he pleases).
I do as our PT said and I grab him and stand him up very frequently throughout the day but he ultimately sits back down. He will walk around all day holding my finger if I let him but the second I pull away he sits down. Any advice on how you helped your littles get to walking full time?
