Is it necessary to sleep train babies? My doctor recommended it but I really don’t want to
My 4.5 month old baby used to sleep through the night, but for the past month he’s been waking up around 1am, 4am and 6am. He cries so I feed him. We’ve been doing this for a month now and some recent nights he slept over 6 hours at once (yay!) but in general it’s not getting any better.
At our appointment today our pediatrician recommended CIO, like literally do not pick him up or do anything for him when he wakes up at night. I can’t imagine doing this to our little tiny baby. But he said we really have to otherwise it’ll get worse. And he cited some other patients of his whose parents never did sleep training and now they’re 2, 5, and 10 years old running out of the house at night or raiding the fridge.
Is this the norm? Do I really have to sleep train? I’m fine waking up at night with LO. I’m a SAHM and he’s our only baby. Can anyone tell me if they didn’t do CIO, did your baby eventually just start sleeping through night?
We also live in a 1 bedroom apartment so if he cries all night it will be inescapable.
