You absolutely can, and if you have a good labor and delivery nurse, you should be doing hands and knees with an epidural.

You can just with assistance. Your limbs still work you just can’t feel them. It’s a safety hazard for hospitals.. That’s why they keep you in a laying position

You don’t really have control of the bottom half of your body after you get it, so unless they have the little stirrupy thing that hooks to the end of the bed with the calf holders and the bar, you’ll probably find it near impossible. 😬

Interesting responses here. I’ve had two epidurals and could still even walk with them. I’d just push my little pole thing to go to the bathroom. And yes I leaned over bed on my knees in pain with it.

My hospital had equipment to assist me in potentially getting into that position if needed, but there’s no way I could have done it and maintained it on my own. You can’t feel your legs.

My guess is no, but you don’t necessarily have to stay on your back. With my daughter I got the epidural, it worked for a bit but it ended up wearing off/leaving my legs completely numb and I felt everything else. My cervix was being difficult and baby wanted out so I pushed on my side, and on my back with my legs up and knees together with help from a nurse and my husband.
