Ovulation tests?

Ok so me and my boyfriend have been TTC for the last 6 months and no luck. We already have a 2.5 year old but we caught straight away with him. 
I'm going to buy ovulation tests can anyone recommend a good brand and also explain how they work 🤦🏻‍♀️ thank you so much in advance x

Easy at home, wondfo, or pregmate tests are the most tests for the price and worked great for me. Others prefer the clearblue tests, but in my opinion they’re wayyyyy too expensive and do the exact same thing as the strips.
As for how they work;
-you’ll want to take them the day after your period ends
-Since you’re just now learning your cycle I would recommend testing once a day until around CD12 and start testing 2-3 times a day
-test between 10am-8pm (these times are flexible to your schedule) but try to avoid using first morning urine for opks
-opks are an all or nothing thing, so either positive or not. The test is positive when your test line is AS dark or darker than the control line. You’ll read a lot of people referring to “peak tests”. When using the strip tests it’s either positive or negative and there is no “peak”, so as long as the test line is as dark or darker it’s a positive.
-you’ll usually ovulate 12-36hrs (as late as 48hrs) after your FIRST positive opk (not peak since peak is irrelevant). However, opks DO NOT mean you’re ovulating or will ovulate. They’re only meant to tell you that you’re having an LH surge and your body is going to attempt to ovulate.
-the only way to confirm ovulation occurred is by tracking your basal body temperature. That in itself is a whole other explanation lol
-you don’t need to keep testing opks once you get your positive test, but keep in mind that the only way to know when ovulation occurred is by tracking bbt.
-the best app for tracking opks and bbt is Fertility Friend. I HIGHLY suggest tracking temps so you truly learn your cycles and know how long your luteal phases are so you know when your period is genuinely late

I bought the easy@home ones off Amazon which seemed to be the ones most people recommend. They’re also much cheaper than buying from the pharmacy. 
With that brand they have an app that you can scan your tests on and it logs/tracks them and tells you when you hit your peak. This made it much simpler for me as I’ve only just started using OPK’s too. 
The Peak indicates that you SHOULD be ovulating within the next 24 hours, but have sex in the lead up to that too so you don’t miss ovulation. 
I’m fairly new to OPK’s too but I believe it’s best to test a couple of times per day, at the same times each day, so you don’t miss the peak. From my limited experience, I’ve gone from low to peak within the same day, so I think testing more than once a day is crucial. Keep testing after you reach peak too to ensure your LH levels go down (thus making it the peak).
Also don’t use first morning urine for OPK’s. (Unlike pregnancy testing)
Also remember that it’s only a predictor, it doesn’t mean you definitely ovulated, so if you try for 12 months and still no luck then see your doctor. (Or if you’re over 35, see them sooner)
