Very upset at my day...
So I am staying anonymous because we'll I don't know if any of my admin is on here. But I am a librarian in a grade school in a red usa state. The last 2 years has been admin forcing me to remove books for a litany of reasons ranging from it may make a white child feel bad to 1 parent alluded to it being offensive to them to it mentions native Americans but not the settlers. Today I was told to remove all Dr. Seuss...all of them...because 1 parent complained 1 of the books taught critical race theory and it will corrupt her child so all the books are problematic. No mention when there was issues a few years back with racial issues in the 2 books or any other issue. But apparently Dr. Seuss is teaching all our kids CRT so now I have a full box of just those books because every single one of them in the library and in classrooms had to be removed. What else had to be removed?? Several little Blue truck books because a parent was offended that it makes rural areas seem too "folksy and that means weak". I am only staying because I care for my students but while I love my job I am getting to my breaking point. I have had to remove hundreds and hundreds of books and when i ask can I replace them so we have books I am told no because the same parents who are having me remove them won't expand my budget to buy new books. I have already gotten 4 emails from thr school board and admin reminding me I am not allowed to show, display or even mention black history month this year. And thr vice principal went through to make sure all out civil rights books have been removed...which they made me take out last year. As a parent if you don't like this and are in a state or area that is doing similar things or you worry volunteer at your kids library and see what actually is happening and please voice your opinion at school vosrd meetings because it does matter.
Edit...these idiots are voted in because the majority of the parents support it. So the 55% that votes them in sadly hurt all the kids. I wish they would get voted out but this is my 16th year as the librarian in our district and it has always been this way. They are just finally able to get their way now as it is more common.
