Hello my name is Angela. I’m about 19 weeks pregnant. 330 lbs. I’ve lost about 12 pounds since the beginning of my pregnancy. I have no appetite and even into my second trimester I’m still throwing up a lot. I brought this up to my doctor and that I’m worried I’m not eating enough calories to keep my baby healthy. I’m eating around 1200-1500 on a good day. Much less if I’m throwing up. I’m concerned but my doctor just said to continue my “diet”. I’m not on a diet. This is not intentional. I’m worried. Any recommendations on what I should do? Any different things I can ask? I feel like I’m not being listened to and he’s just dismissing my concerns because I’m fat. Help please….

Women with HG go on to have healthy babies the vast majority of the time and they are often hospitalized, extreme cases get IV nutrition. Fetuses are, to put it indelicately, obligate parasites. The baby is getting what they need. I'm sorry you feel dismissed by your provider. They should answer your questions and not be dismissive of you. I can understand why you are feeling anxious.

This is such an accurate and empathic response ❤ Indeed, baby will take all they need. You just need to take care of yourself! For instance, pregnant women have been known to get brittle bones because the baby will literally draw calcium out of their bodies to form bones, while the Mom becomes calcium deficient.

Next time you see him don’t ask for an opinion on your symptoms. Ask for zofran and continue asking for it until he gives you the prescription. If he doesn’t then switch doctors.

Eat whatever you can. But this I know, you may feel like crap, but your babies takes from you.

It’s totally normal to feel this way. My 2nd pregnancy I weighed 300. I lost 30 lbs the first trimester from not being able to eat. I eventually gained that back. I’m on my 3rd pregnancy now weighing 260 and I’m 20 weeks and so far I lost weight in the beginning and now I gained 1 pound in a month. It’s not that the doctors don’t care they just don’t see any issue yet. If you keep losing throughout I’m sure they will worry but it’s very easy for someone like myself who weighs a lot to lose weight faster when our bodies are use to more calories and you are going in a calorie deficit.

With my 1st I gained 30lbs. With my second I lost 50lbs with my 3rd I lost 25lbs then I was obese. I lost weight with all my pregnancy. With my last I lost 30lbs I threw my whole pregnancy baby was born 5lb5oz. Yes that’s small but I’ve only had small babies my oldest was born at 41wk and he was 6lbs and 2oz. And with my last I still had 4wks to go he would have been over 6lbs too. Just because your throwing up don’t mean baby not getting what it needs from what you are. I’m 294 I’ve been this weight since I became pregnant and my baby actually measuring good. I’m two not able to hold anything down with help of meds. 19wk.
