Advertising/Influencer Controversy- Mikayla Nogueira

Hello CC

If any of you are active on TikTok youll likely know what this is about.

The video is up on Mikaylas TT but we all know links dont work here

Recently a very popular Beauty Influencer on TikTok posted a video in partnership with L'Oreal, for a mascara review. She is under a lot of scrutiny for her review of the mascara because at the end of the video it cut to her wearing false lashes.  She hasn't lost her following but all of her subsequent videos are full of comments calling her out and demanding an apology. Other influencers Like Jeffery Star have called her out - and many people are backing him up even though he has had a long history of being extremely racist - saying that "at least he was honest about his reviews". Her stitches on the video are full of people being truly awful to her.

My questions are:

- Are social Media Influencers held to a different standard than other celebrities and models who do commercials?

- Is being misleading about a beauty product truly more atrocious than bigotry?

- What level is the brand responsible for allowing (and potentially directing?) Mikayla to post this video?

- What is your personal expectations for these kinds of Ads?
