The Tragic Earthquake in Turkey

An

If you don't already know, there was a massive earthquake in Turkey and is expected that the death toll will exceed 10,000. I have been reading personal stories from those that are near there and have seen a few videos of the aftermath. 💔 It's estimated that around 3000 buildings have collapsed.

As with any tragic events, it's often cathartic to share stories, so I thought a thread would be a good place to start. So whether you have an earthquake story, or are personally affected, or have charity information for helping Turkey through this crisis, please post.

But since it has to be controversial, I guess we could (optionally) talk about the role of government regulation in regards to building codes (non-specific to Turkey). I know my libertarian friends and anti-regulation friends feel that there is so much red tape that it stifles growth and is a system used to give favored companies more business (eg: You have to use this specific approved bracket made only by this one company, etc). Yet, I'm not sure I see natural market pressure incentivizing safe buildings except for the wealthy.
