Can PCOS cause low progesterone during pregnancy? Also wondering if having PCOS can affect my pregnancy.
Please read, I’m currently 8 weeks pregnant. My pregnancy was a complete surprise, I was actually just in the beginning process of trying to better manage my weight/balance out my hormones because my cycles became very irregular, I gained a ton of weight out of nowhere and could not lose it no matter what I tried. I was on the Mirena IUD for a year and after I got it removed my body and cycle were never the same😅 I went to my OBGYN and they did blood work to check my thyroid, check for PCOS, anemia, etc. as well as do an ultrasound to check for cysts and polyps. Well a week after that appointment I found out I was pregnant. I’ve not checked my mail in almost a month but I did today and saw I got a confidential letter from my OB, it was my lab results from that first appointment. My thyroid is fine, I’m not anemic, but they said I have low progesterone, high testosterone, and that I have poly cystic ovarian syndrome. So now that I’ve been diagnosed with that, I’m trying to figure out if that explains all of the issues I’ve been having this past year and a half and also wanting to know if PCOS could have been what caused my last pregnancy in July of 2022 to end in a miscarriage due to low progesterone. I also have had low progesterone with this pregnancy as well and have been taking 400mg of progesterone every day and have to continue until I’m 13 weeks. I’ve always wondered why I have progesterone issues every time I’m pregnant but never knew what was causing it. Has PCOS been behind all these issues? And can it affect my pregnancy negatively in any way?
