What are the effects of ultrasounds? Are too many possibly dangerous?

Hi Everyone
My boyfriend says his mom told him that I should keep ultrasound scans to a minimum because the full extent of effects are unknown, in other words, under researched. What are your opinions or knowledge on this?

No, this is well-researched. It’s perfectly safe.
If she’s talking about the Mechanical Index (MI), this is kept very low and can’t damage tissue.  For example, water coming out of a hose is not harmful. However, under extreme pressure; water can cut through a number of hard materials. Over 100,000 years, it can carve a mountain. It’s the same with ultrasound. Fetal ultrasounds come nowhere close.
I’d just follow your Drs advice. Congrats on your baby!

My mom also said this. I think maybe older generations didn't have all the info we have now. 2d ultrasounds are very safe. I had around 20 of them with my daughter because of our complications. They do generally recommend that you only get the ones you need and not have 3d ultrasounds for fun though since those have been studied less.

I thought it was with sound that was dangerous. That’s why they don’t have you hear the heart beat right away (I had my first ultrasound at 7 weeks). Curious what others say.
