You can calculate it both ways, but they require different calculations depending on what day you use. You can only use ovulation day if you know your exact ovulation date. You can look up a calculator online to predict your due date based off ovulation day. LMP is more commonly used because people generally know that date exactly and then due date is adjusted based on your dating scan. 
For me, my due date based on LMP and based on ovulation day were 2 days apart. At my dating scan, my OB confirmed my ovulation date was the better predictor based on the baby’s size. It’s really just an estimation though, and chances are super low to actually deliver on your expected due date.

Typically it’s your LMP. That’s how they tracked my son’s due date along, with the first ultrasound. I had very irregular periods when I conceived my daughter and they didn’t listen to me when I said my LMP would be inaccurate so I had my first appointment almost four weeks too early and had to return when I was far enough along for my initial. 🙄
