Birthday picnic ideas?

I asked him where he wanted to go out to eat for his birthday and he said he just wanted to do a picnic and I have never been the one to plan a picnic and only did it once before (not with him). I figured I can plan it but I wasn’t sure what exactly to get or where to start lol. He is a very simple person so I know he wouldn’t like elaborate stuff but what do I need to know? Please help lol!

I love doing picnics! I'd do something simple you know he likes, add in a grazing/snack element(nuts, fruit, cheese, meat, crackers), something he likes to drink, and a small cake. For a date I've done baked ziti with garlic bread, salad, berries with Chantilly cream and Italian soda. For tea with the girls I do finger sandwiches, fruit, nuts, and various shortbreads/macarons/petit fours. I've also done simple things like sandwiches and fruit salad for a casual picnic.
