Don’t Say Period!
What age should schools begin instruction on health education, including the menstrual cycle?
Should students be allowed to go to teachers with questions about their own periods?
In Florida bill 1069 (dubbed the don’t say period bill by those opposed) has passed the State House and will now be sent to the State Senate for approval. Should the bill pass the state senate and be signed by the governor, all health instruction will be banned until 6th grade (typically ages 11/12). It specifically prohibits discussion regarding periods. Should the bill pass it will go into effect July 1st, so effecting education starting in the next school year.
The bill also goes into detail about sex education, but we’ve covered similar in here multiple times before, so I focused on the part about period education. If anyone wants to take it in that direction though, please feel free to expand on what you think school’s should and should not cover.
