Animal lovers I need y’all opinion!
So, I adopted a beautiful female cat like 5 weeks ago. I went to a shelter in NYC and got her but they told me I had to bring her back to get her spayed because they couldn’t do it due to her having a “cold”. I was like “cool, no problem”. A week after I got the cat, I noticed that she was getting HUGE! I was like Wth? And I told my mother that I thought the cat was pregnant. She told me she didn’t think so that maybe she was gaining weight so fast because she was in a house and having food every day. I was like “true” so I left it like that.
The more days passed, the bigger the cat got. I was like SHE IS PREGNANT! Then I noticed that her nipples were getting bigger and pinker by the day, and one of my friends who works in an animal rescue confirmed it with the help of her veterinarian friend. The point is that when I emailed the shelter they called right away for me to take her to get the “surgery” to spay her. And I was like “okay” but then I started thinking what the cat was gonna go through if she was pregnant which she definitely is.
We’ll long story short, I did not take her to the appt and my friend offered to foster her for a few weeks since I have 18 months old twins so Is not a really good idea to have babies with a cat and kittens (we all know they can get defensive). So the lady from the shelter just called me and asked me why I didn’t take her and I was like because I do not feel comfortable having my cat to go through that experience and I do not authorize that to which she responded that it does not work like that and I was obligated to bring her. I told her that they NEVER disclosed that she was pregnant when I first got her and that that was the reason why they made me leave a $150 deposit and I will get the money back after taking her there for the surgery. She got all upset and told me she was going to speak to her supervisor…
Now my question is:
Isn’t animal cruelty and abuse to take a cat whom is probably 2-3 weeks shy of giving birth to get an abortion and spayed just because? Like there is no health issues or anything with her so this is not a life treating situation. My friend who told me about this shelter told me that he wasn’t going to respond to my message because I was wrong and he didn’t agree with me. Isn’t hypocrite of me to take my cat to have this thing when I know for a fact I would NEVER do it to myself UNLESS is EXTREMELY necessary? Am I wrong?
