Pushing back start date?

I got a job offer three weeks ago. At the interview they told me the hiring process will take 2-3 months. I was under the impression my start date won’t be until after that time period. It seems that the process has been going by fast than what was stated. The job is 40 min away from where I currently live. My plan was to get all of my things situated and move closer to the job by the end of May. In the case they give me a start date sooner than what’s good for me, how can I go about this with the company? Ideally I wanted to start in June. At the interview they also asked me if I have anything planned within the next few months, which I do. I told them I have something planned in May. Since they emphasized the process will take 2-3 months it slipped my mind to let them know I will be moving closer to the job. Anyways, any tips?

Why have you waited 3 weeks since getting the offer to address this?  It should have been talked about and negotiated when you first received it and probably won’t look good to ask to push it now.  Is there a reason you can’t pack/move after you’ve started at this job?  People move all the time while still working.  If it were me I wouldn’t ask to push the start date but I would clarify with them the other things you have planned and acknowledge you should have told them this sooner when you realized the process was going faster than the 2-3 months they originally told you.

It's great that you have a plan in place for your move and start date. If the company gives you a start date that is sooner than what you had planned, you can reach out to them and explain your situation. Let them know that you had planned to move closer to the job by the end of May and that starting earlier would be difficult for you. Ask if it would be possible to push back your start date to June.
