Is this a rude reaction to a gift?

So this guy I know is trying to grow his hair out. Ive been using a hair growth shampoo for 3 years now which I’m really happy about, I recommend it to everyone, so I decided to gift him one to try.
To cut the long story short, he came back complaining to me that this shampoo has irritated his scalp and that he’ll never listen to anyone again. He made me feel so bad, it actually hurt me because I was so excited for him to try it, I even bought it for my sisters an another friend of mine and they are all happy.
I don’t understand how someone can come and talk this way to someone that definitely didn’t want to do any harm to him. I’m so sad rn.

I mean I don’t think it would be rude if he just told you his skin was too sensitive for it & it irritated his scalp. It was unnecessary for him to say he will never listen to anyone ever again. That’s a little dramatic.. everyone’s skin is different. It’s not your fault that he had a negative experience with it, but at the same time I think he’s probably just frustrated & not intending on hurting you just as you weren’t intending to hurt him.

Some people have more sensitivity o certain shampoos then others. He’s not trying to be mean he’s just saying he got  an “allergic reaction” and wasn’t expecting that to happen.

No, the reaction wasn’t rude and there isn’t any need to be sad. The shampoo didn’t work for him and he was being honest with you. Just because a product works for others doesn’t mean it will work for all. Don’t take it personal.

I'll disagree with everyone here because yes it is rude. I got a perfume years ago that made me so allergic I literally couldn't breathe and yet I wasn't a little baby making the person feel bad about something nice they did for me. It was unnecessary to make you feelbad. When they asked me how I liked the perfume I simply said "Omg!! I love the scent but it gave me the worst allergies." They didn't act like a little brat, they just took it back.

His delivery of his dislike of the product was a bit extreme. But if he’s trying to grow out his hair and now has an allergic reaction it could cost him the hardwork he’s already put in. 
Always remember many products/medications have side effects on them for a reason. Maybe start offering samples vs gifting whole bottles. He is obviously allergic to whatever is in the product. I personally wouldn’t have gifted anything skin care wise to someone because skin is a sensitive thing, especially the scalp. You don’t know how it will react to other people, it could of made HIS hair fall out, it could make someone’s scalp dry, there’s so many different things. Think of medication, ever wonder why sooooo many side effects to one medication, it’s because many different people experience different reactions.
