I read this quote this morning and I'm just curious what others think about it. 
“Why should we, the descendants of victorious people, feel shame and repent, rather than pride ourselves on our glorious past?”

I would disagree. I wouldn’t pride myself on some “glorious past” because it had nothing to do with me or my actions. I also don’t feel personal shame, but if there were moral wrongdoings by my distant ancestors, I will acknowledge that and do what I can to make it right in the present.

That is such a cringey quote. “Victorious people” just means privileged people. Why should privileged people feel bad about stomping on others to get ahead? Well, that’s the crux of what it means to be a savage vs what it means to be civilized

I haven’t heard this quite before but I hate it. It definitely sounds like someone trying to excuse the reality of the past and justify bad behavior, deny ongoing systemic practices that negatively affect others.
