I hate tipping
Before anyone comes at me, I was raised by single mom who worked as a waitress at Cracker Barrel for the first 13 years of my life. I know how little waitstaff make and I DO tip because of that. But I hate the concept and we need to put a stop to it. Why are all of these big chain restaurants relying on their customers to pay their employees while the CEO is making $7 million a year and their employees aren’t even able to live paycheck to paycheck.
Yesterday I saw an argument from a DoorDasher bc they literally don’t get paid at all unless there is a tip when the CEO is literally a fucking billionaire. We’re conditioned to feel bad and to tip out of generosity while these billionaires are taking full advantage, knowing that they do not have to pay ANYTHING, because we will feel guilty and pay for them. Waitstaff in most restaurants make $2-$3 an hour plus tips. Other restaurants require their waitstaff to count and report their tips at the end of the shift so that they can deducted it from their Minimum Wage check. We’re literally paying for the rich to get richer in every way of life and I’m so sick of it.
This is not so much for small businesses. But I still believe that if you cannot afford to adequately pay your employees, then you need to be doing more of the work yourself or simply not be in business until you can.
Edit: I’m not saying waitresses or food industry workers don’t deserve tips, I know you work your asses off. I don’t understand what some of y’all ARENT understanding. A tip should be EXTRA money, not money that you rely on. The restaurant needs to pay you what you deserve and if customers decide to tip, it should not be counted against your weekly pay. The whole reason I hate tipping is because it’s going into greedy CEOs pockets when they aren’t paying their workers shit.
