Can weight affect ovulation?

I've heard that weight can impact ovulation. How does this work, and what can I do to optimize my chances of conceiving?

Answer

Yes it can. Being overweight can cause irregular cycles and stop you from ovulating all together just like being underweight can. Conditions such as PCOS can also be helped through losing weight. 
It also affects egg quality, sperm quality and implantation.
To optimise your chances I would first see a doctor to discuss your wish to conceive and get the necessary blood tests. They will also be able to put you onto a hood dietician / nutritionists who can discuss healthy weight loss. 
It’s so simple but so hard at the same time. Just eat whole foods, limit processed foods, don’t eat huge portions and exercise. Focus on filling your plate with veggies and a little lean meat and walk a lot to start with :) 
Also when you want something that’s not great for you just remember your goal and why you’re doing this.
