Is this just a phase?

My 15 month old has a favorite stuffed animal. All of a sudden she humps it a lot now. Also as  self soothing method before sleeping. Has anyone else experienced this? Im kind of embarrassed about it even though i know i shouldnt be. Will.she eventually stop? I cant seem to get her to find another way to self soothe unless i took her favorite toy away. Is this common with a lot children?

Self curiosity as well as humping are a totally normal part of development,  and there is no one set again where it starts.  ..or ends.. so yeah a phase, that could end quickly or take time , or reoccur later.  As long as there are no suspicions of inappropriate interactions with adults, it shouldn't be a cause for concern. When shes alone and in bed is the safest way she can discover. It might seem weird, but try not to shame her for it .  Parenting sure is fun 😅

I wouldn’t say common at 15 months but definitely normal. 
It’s best to not shame or scold them for doing so. Ignoring the behavior is the best response. Reacting to it will likely make it happen more or scare them from exploring their body. 
While this can be a sign of something serious going on, there would be other signs. 
Self soothing is the main reason. It could also be due to genital irritation, it feels good, or simply because it’s a new motion they learned.

She humps the toy? Mine has never done that and I haven't heard anyone saying anything like that. I know that when they reach 4 they start "discovering" their parts, but 15 months old... I would talk to a doctor, and maybe set some hidden cameras up.

I worked with a little girl who had ASD and she did this as a self soothing option until she 4.
