Does anyone know how inaccurate a growth scan can be?

What factors can affect the accuracy of a growth scan? Can the results of an inaccurate growth scan have any negative impact on the pregnancy?

First pregnancy I got diagnosed with gestational diabetes at 38weeks, got sent for a growth scan and they told me she was close to 11 lbs.  She was 9lb 6oz at birth. So for me there’s a lot of error. BUT trust your doctors

Weight can be off by a pound in either direction and sometimes length of bones like the femer that they use to check size can be off a bit but f baby is scrunched up. It’s not a super reliable method to say “you have a big baby so we need to induce you”

My sister was told her baby was like 8lbs and something oz at 38 weeks and that she “needed” to be induced… she was induced at 39 weeks and he was 6lbs 7oz. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I personally won’t get growth scans bc they’re far more inaccurate from what I’ve seen than not.

Yea it depends me and my siblings were all like ounces off but my last brother they rushed and told my mom he was 8 pounds but came out 11

They are only as accurate as the technician who is taking the measurements. Historically I have had them more than a pound off. I go for twice weekly measurements and I try to schedule with the same tech for consistency.
