To tubal or not

Hey Ladies. I want exactly sure where to post this so please bear with me. I'm a 37 year old mother of 5 with number 6 due 03/03/24. I've been on so many different birth control medications (from dual hormonal pills, mini pill, depo shot, nexplanon arm implant, non-hormonal paraguard IUD, and even the fertility tracking method/natural method). And i have gotten pregnant on almost every one. My first was on ortho trycyclin low, second on the depo shot, third again on ortho, 4th on a different dual pill. My very first was ectopic and on no BC. I had a 7 week blighted Ovum while trying for my first planned pregnancy so no BC. Then with my youngest we actively tried so again no birth control. I was using the natural method as well as the mini pill when i got pregnant this time around. Prior to this pregnancy i had a chemical while on the IUD. I DID NOT get pregnant on the nexplanon BUT I NEVER want to go back to that as my side effects coming off were beyond horrible. So far i have been pregnant 12 times and have 5 living children. (Ectopic, 1st born, 2nd born, 3rd born, chemical, 4th, MMC, chemical, 5th born, 2 chemicals, current pregnancy). I do not want to go back to hormonal birth control plus so many seem to not work for me. And I take them at the same time everyday with my other meds. Used secondary protection if i missed a day and abstsined when on antibiotics. That being said, my husband does not want anymore children, and while it's bittersweet and i don't want the chapter to end i know it's time to watch my children grow as my famiky is grown. Plus my pregnancies have gotten more complicated as I've gotten older. 37 and 6 kids is a lot, even with my oldest 3 living with their fathers. So now that story time is over i was wondering if anyone had any information about tubal litigation, specifically burning/tying. I want to do this while I'm at the hospital. For a full tubal removal i would have to go back at/after the 6 week mark and undergo surgery then. Hubs and i have discussed the option of him being snipped but he refuses to budge. (Deathly afraid of hospitals and needles). I know i can Google, and i will be speaking with my doctor around 28 weeks (currently 21+1) but i need input from others who have had this procedure. Side effects, healing time, periods afterwards, sex drive, etc. This is a huge thing to me and i dont want to make a hasty decision. Any input, even leading to information would be so helpful. So thank you in advance and blessed be.

Hi, idk if my reply will be too late at this point. Im 31 got my tubes tied in September 2021 the next morning after I gave birth to my 4th. The surgery itself was quick, felt like I blinked and then woke up back in my room. Once the anesthesia wore off I did feel a lot of pressure in my belly button. About 2 days after I got a really bad migraine but Excedrin helped. Took me about a week to feel fully comfortable to walk around normal. My periods now are ok, heavy the first 2 days, normal for 3 days then spot for about 2 days. Little to no cramping. Before my tubal my ovulation days were painful now that's gone. As for mood swings and sex drive I haven't noticed a difference in that.

I'm 35. I had a tubal ligation 5 years ago. I regret mine, but I also only have 2 kids, at the time it was the right decision for my family but things changed. The initial surgery wasn't bad. I did however, do too much walking the day after surgery and ended up in so much pain. But aside from that my healing was fine. I have no visible scars. My periods have gotten better. But I've always had bad periods, very heavy, very painful, my periods were also never on "schedule" sometimes I'd miss a month but since my tubal they've been very consistent.

It sounds like you have had quite a journey with birth control methods and pregnancies. It's understandable that you are considering permanent contraception options like tubal ligation. While I can't provide personal experiences, I can give you some general information. Tubal ligation is a surgical procedure where the fallopian tubes are either burned or tied to prevent pregnancy. It is typically done under general anesthesia and can be performed during or after childbirth. The side effects and healing time can vary from person to person, but generally, recovery takes about a week. Some women may experience mild discomfort, bloating, or shoulder pain from the gas used during the procedure. Your periods should continue as normal, but some women may notice changes in their menstrual flow. As for sex drive, it is unlikely to be affected by tubal ligation. It's important to have a thorough discussion with your doctor about the procedure, including the risks, benefits, and any concerns you may have. They will be able to provide you with personalized information and address any specific questions you may have.
