Very scary birth

Isis

Hello friends, I am new to this app and figured I would share my experience.

On September 16th I gave birth to my beautiful baby girl. I am a first-time mom and I was extremely excited to welcome my baby into this world. When I gave birth to Paisley the whole room went quiet and multiple different people rushed into my delivery room. I had no idea what was going on until my OBGYN told me that my daughter was born with gastroschisis. For those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s where a baby is born with their intestines on the outside of their body.

This was a very scary thing for me. I had no idea what that meant for me or my baby. And I had no idea if my sweet baby was going to make it. I'd never heard anything like this before. We had no idea that she was going to be born this way due to the fact that the radiologist told my OB that everything on my ultrasounds was normal and looked great. When I gave birth and we discovered that she was born that way the doctor went back and looked at my ultrasound and he said that it was clear as day that you could see her intestines in the ultrasound.

With that being said if we had known she was going to be born this way I would have delivered at a hospital with a NICU. The closest hospital that had a NICU was 2 hours away from where I gave birth. My sweet girl was transported to the NICU where she had then stayed for 6 weeks. In the first 4 days, the dr at the NICU put her intestines back in her tummy. Within 2 days after that her intestines started to come back out of her tummy. They immediately rushed her into surgery and got them all put back in.

After surgery, Paisley did not handle it very well. We got a call saying that our sweet baby was getting sicker and not breathing on her own. She was hooked up to all different kinds of machines and was on multiple different medications. She was in an induced coma for 6 days after surgery. When Paisley woke up from her coma she was doing much better. She was monitored very closely every day by the surgery team. Our sweet girl made major improvements every day and impressed everyone. After 6 long weeks, she was finally able to come home.

Paisley has been home for 2 weeks now and we couldn’t be more excited to finally have her home. She is loved by so many
