Truma for a baby?

So recently my partner got physicallyabusive towards me (which hes not done before). He screamed at me and hit me in front of our 8 month old baby. Everytime he hit me our baby would scream in a way ive never heard before. Im so worried that this caused some permanent damage to him. As genetic issues run in the family that can be triggered as children by truma.    EDIT: I'm not looking for relationship advice and i never said i was staying with him after that. My question is will it cause damage to my 8 month old after that.

It’s possible. My daughter is adopted and had a traumatic start to life. She was removed from her home at 5 months old. I think the brain does remember things, even if we can’t really remember. Food is an issue with my daughter. Come to find out, she was given water, cows milk, or nothing for those first 5 months. She hides food a lot in her room. Her brain remembers her body didn’t always get food. There is more than enough food in my house and she’s always welcomed to food. Maybe with it happening once it won’t make as big of an impact. Keep reminding that baby that they are safe, loved and wanted.

You need to talk about this with someone who can support you and your child. 
You may accept this from your partner, that’s your choice but you need to take that child away from this person- it is not your child’s choice to stay. 
Please go and get checked out, and please please put that child before yourself and do not let this happen again. You deserve better, your beautiful child deserves better.

Something you may not be aware of is, abusing someone in front of a child is child abuse and not reporting it may hold you to some extent responsible. Understand, it is unlikely for this to get better without professional help, and is likely to escalate and put your baby in not only emotional damage, but eventually physical damage as well. Yes it can cause trauma but not in a way you’ll understand. It may not show right away it could show years later. But I would recommend to get yourself in to therapy so you will know how to cope and handle their trauma. Please be careful with that man because if he will hit you in front of your baby he will hit your baby eventually. Take care of yourself mama.

I was mentally and physically abused for 8 years (I know I know) we had two children together, my youngest was 3 when I finally left (I know I’m dumb) and he did not sleep through the night until we moved out.. from the time he was a little baby, my BD would yell and scream at me if I wasn’t immediately awoken by our son, would literally kick me out of bed onto the floor yelling “fucking get him to shut up, I have to work”. We spent many nights asleep on the couch.. my oldest would comfort me at 3/4 years old and I regret so much. I believe my son wouldn’t sleep through the night because of this ahole. Because the moment we moved in with my nana, the midnight wake ups crying stopped.. I’m now happily married to the best man ever and my boy still sleeps through the night

Trauma changes a persons brain, even when they are babies and don't remember later in life. So yes, it can be harmful for a baby to see their parent abused. The important thing is that you get away from this relationship and will not expose yourself and your child to abuse anymore. If you commit to that now, your child has a great chance of growing up unharmed.

I would be careful telling anybody this. One reason when I was in your situation when my daughter was a newborn I did not see professional help. I just left was because I did not want d cf. Festival involved cases like this domestic violence are perfect. Telling the wrong person can cause them to call child protective service is on you. I would say get yourself together. Take your baby and just leave. That's your best bet before any further damages done to you or your child.

I can't remember the study, but there was a YT video of how kids were taken from their parents to observe their mental/emotional etc wellbeing, developmental stages, and how it would affect them. Like some were given food, some were given toys, etc..... and it was heartbreaking to see how the kids reacted. Just made me want to snatch them from the screen and give them love.
