I’m the 1 in 1,000 IUD

Korinne

So….. you’re always told the rare complications of things and I’ve never really paid too much attention. It always just seemed like such small odds, they’d never happen to me. Well, I’m a complication statistic now. My IUD perforated through the wall of my uterus. So fun.

I went in 6 weeks after I had my iud inserted to check and make sure everything was good and in place. (This was my third iud and have NEVER had a problem.) my doctor couldn’t find the strings so I had to get a transvaginal ultrasound to see if the string got stuck too far up. They couldn’t find anything on that so next step was an xray. X-ray found it outside my uterus.

Anyway, this was super bad timing. I found this out on Monday and was actually scheduled to get a fairly intensive nose surgery (rhinoplasty) to fix some major nose trauma and scarring on Thursday (tomorrow.) My OB wanted to schedule a laparoscopy surgery to remove my iud so I thought I’d have to cancel my other procedure which would probably get pushed back like 9 months. But my surgeon and my OB are awesome and are actually working together to get both procedures done at the same time. That’s one less time under anesthesia and not having to do two separate recoveries. Plus with having a baby this year we’ve hit our deductible so we’ll be able to fit them in before that resets in January.

Anyway, it’s going to be fun tomorrow.Check those strings lady! Feel free to ask me any questions. Oh and yes I’m going to have them place a new iud while I’m under. It’s the only form of birth control I haven’t felt terrible on. But, yeah, a little nervous about the small chance of it happening again.

Anyone that has had this happen and gotten a laparoscopy to remove iud I’d love your advice, experience, etc. TIA!!!
