When to tell your job?

Question

How many weeks or months do you wait to let your job know you’re pregnant? I’m a caregiver and I don’t know when I should let my employer know. I’m 9 weeks pregnant though

Answer

Depends on the job in my opinion. If it is a job where you are expected to do tasks that could be harmful while pregnant then say earlier rather than later. Same if it is a job where coverage could be hard to find for mat leave and you would need to time to help train someone to cover. I told my boss before I had baby 1 at 15 weeks but I was managing an entire medical office/scheduling surgeries and was not coming back after baby. We needed to find someone and have enough time I could train them so no patients suffered. If you plan on going back after baby I would not blindside them at the very end but still do what you are comfortable with. There isn't a blanket situation right time.

I told mine at 16 weeks when we found out we were having twins. Only cause I couldn’t hide it much longer

I told my immediate supervisor the day I found out. I was going through fertility treatments and had many doctor’s appointments, so she knew when I was supposed to test. Other than that, I didn’t tell upper management until I was about 20 weeks.

It's up to you. I'm a CNA. I work for agencies and pick my schedule. I only told 1 agency last time I was pregnant so when I got closer to due date they would know why I didn't pick up shifts. That boss  was concerned because I started working less and less.The other CNA agencies I worked for never knew. You don't have to tell anyone until closer to due date. It's your choice.

I let my manager know when I was about 7 weeks. My job is very high pressure/stress and attention to detail with tight deadlines so it was important I told her as soon as possible. Luckily I did because I’ve had to take multiple days off due to being too sick to get out of bed and she is extremely supportive.

I told 10 weeks as I’m a manager in a big resteraunt and it required alot of heavy lifting and late busy nights

I told mine at 6 weeks. Mainly because I work at my OB office so they would have figured it out lol. that and I had some pretty intense morning sickness which made it hard to do my job 100%
