My son was diagnosed with autism today
I don’t know how to think/feel about it. I don’t think the assessment was fair. For example he got marked fail for bubbles because he didn’t hand them to me or his dad to ask for help. He handed them to the provider. Literally right after the appointment he went home, grabbed bubbles and brought them to me to me to blow. The ball he was tossing back it just wasn’t making it directly at the provider. He brought the trapped fruit snack to the provider but not to us. And he was copying stuff he did just not precise. Stuff like that. I think because the provider was the one interacting and handing them to him he knew to seek help from him. I just think a lot was over looked and became unnoticed because it wasn’t “perfect”So my questions are..
*Have you experienced an unfair assessment like this and did it help getting a second opinion?
*How can I find support groups for me and my son? I def wanna socialize him more but don’t have any friends with kids nearby. Peanut sucks btw so that’s out of question.
I just want the best care for my son. I don’t care about a diagnosis, I just want him treated fairly and to have the resources to do so.
