When did you know that you wanted another kid?

I have one daughter (17 months) and lately I have been wondering whether she should have a sibling. I originally thought I never wanted more kids. But lately, I have been thinking about it often. I’m not sure if this thought is due to being around other pregnant women or if it’s me genuinely wanting another child. I’d love to hear others’ experiences with deciding on another kid.

My son is 7 and its just been in the last year that I've entertained the idea of having another. My son had a really difficult time sleeping and has always been high needs emotionally, so the idea of another always felt overwhelming. And honestly, we couldn't have afforded it before if I'd wanted another one sooner. But lately I've really struggled with kind of wanting one more now that my son is old enough to be a bit more independent. The idea of starting over feels kind of daunting, but I'm 36 so I feel like it's now or never. My sister and I are 8 years apart and we're very close, I can see how having a bigger age gap has its perks. That's probably not very helpful since I don't actually have a second, but just know you're not alone in the struggle of debating on another baby haha.

When my oldest was between 1.5 and 2 years old I started to be open to the idea of having another. Around 2.5 years old I was ready again but my husband wasn't yet. Took him about half a year more to be ready and then we tried for our second.

With my first I knew I wanted a sibling for her but waited til she was out of diapers and for my body to heal from C-section so I could experience natural birth. When my second was born I thought "man these kids are fun and silly I want one more" so we tried them quit after a year of trying. Fast forward to my third when she was crawling I had thoughts of wanting one more. Told myself it was because an even number of kids is perfect lol. But I had a nexplanon implant put in after I was done breastfeeding her and had to wait for it to be able to come out and here we are today secretly hoping for 2 more but outwardly telling my husband just 1 more is the plan or hope lol. It's baby fever that gets me. Once my kids are no longer babies I miss them being so little and completely forgetting the sleepless nights and constant diaper changes.

Before I even had kids I knew I wanted more than one. My husband and I were both on the same page with that. Immediately after my daughter was born I was ready for the next one, but our situation wasn’t appropriate for having 2 kids close together. My daughter is now 4 and I’m 20 weeks with #2. we decided timing was right once we finished a big house project and my husband got a big promotion at work.
