AITA? Pet surgery

TW: Euthanasia 
AITA for considering euthanasia bc I cannot afford a 10k surgery for my pet? She has a very unusual condition, while it’s not urgent, it will eventually take a toll on her quality of life. There is no treatment other than surgery which could be over $10k. It is not a guarantee that it will completely resolve the issue and due to the location, it may not end well. She is older and I’m not sure if I should put her through all of that and due to recent household emergencies (septic system repairs) and months of testing to diagnose her, I’m already really deep in the hole with credit cards. It’s not impossible for me to have this surgery done but I’m really struggling with this. Please no rude comments, I have been sick to my stomach every day for months while the vet has been figuring this issue out.

Nope. How would you feel if you spent $10k, she didn’t tolerate surgery well at her old age, or the surgery didn’t even help? Unfortunately you have to think of your other financial responsibilities. There’s nothing wrong with putting her down once her quality of life declines

There’s no reason for a surgery you cannot afford- let the animal live out the rest of its life until the condition no longer allows happiness or creates pain. At that point, put the animal down.

No you’re not. It’s a hard choice. It sounds like you’re doing all you can of for her to get her diagnosed. If I was in the situation, I let her live her life or if she’s really suffering then I would put her down. I’m sorry you have to make this choice.

If you’re not in a position to pay then you shouldn’t feel guilty or bad. Especially since there’s no guarantee the surgery will work.

For me, it would depend on what the condition is. But a really lean more toward letting her go before she has to suffer more. But that’s a very hard decision.

I had to make the same decision a few years ago. Ugh, it isnt easy. The money was a factor, but she was also 12 years old and no guarantee the surgery would even work,and it seemed like a lot of risk and a painful recovery for a dog without much time to live anyway even in the best case scenario. It was awful having to face that decision. Im sorry youre going through this.
