Is this a part of puberty?

I gave 2 teenagers currently going through puberty. My 13 year old daughter just got her period and my 14 year old son has been getting hair and getting smelly. The last 3 days he's also just peed in his bed and before anyone says it, I know for a fact it's not wet dream. He has those too and I know the difference. He's just been peeing in his bed. I only found out because I wake up to the washer and dryer. Is this something that actually happens during puberty for boys or is he just starting to be extra lazy? He's been getting lazy lately. He hasn't been doing chores and lying about doing homework but if this is genuinely out of laziness that's obviously too far and unacceptable. Anyone else having to deal with puberty w/ their teens?

People, even kids or teenagers, don’t pee themselves because they are lazy. Something else is probably going on. And I’m not saying this is happening but bed wetting at a later age can be a sign on sexual abuse and stuff, again, not saying that’s it specifically but I just don’t think someone would pee in the bed because of laziness.

Agreed with other comments. See if hes been having issues and might have a UTI. No teenager will just start peeing their bed out of laziness. If it was laziness then you wouldnt be waking up to the washer and dryer. You think if hes too lazy to get up to go pee that he would get up to wash his sheets before you woke up? Hes embarassed and probably doesnt understand whats happening. A deep chat is in order.

It may be a medical/psychological issue, but may not. I started bedwetting for awhile around the same age, I was not sexually abused, my mom took me for all these medical tests and came back fine. The pituitary is responsible for nighttime urination and mine just went through an adjustment period. I also went through a period that age of being utterly exhausted. I had a hard time sleeping at night and my schooling and social pressures just really drained me to the point that when I did sleep I was knocked out and didnt wake to go. Puberty actually requires a lot of physical energy similar to pregnancy or babies/toddlers who need more food and rest just to keep up with their body changes. So dont approach it with shame or interrogation because he wont open up. Approach it with empathy eg this isnt an easy stage of life,theres a lot of pressures and confusion etc and Im here for you if you need support, if youre overwhelmed etc. Also if hes on screens until very late you may need to put a screen curfew, not as a punishment but for his well being.

Bed wetting at that age is often a sign of a UTI. I wouldn’t say it’s laziness. With everything else you described it sounds like there could be something more on a deeper level.

He’s not urinating because he’s lazy. There is an underlying issue going on. None of this sounds like laziness. It sounds like there are some issues going on and he’s struggling to deal with them.
