Was I wrong for laughing at my boyfriend?

My boyfriend is mad at me and wants me to leave him alone because I laughed at him. He had to go to urgent care Wednesday. He didn't tell me everything until he got home. He teaches 4th grade and one of his students got angry and long story short this student broke both his wrists. His exact words were he basically got his ass kicked. I laughed and asked how did he allow a 10 year old to kick his ass. He didn't find it funny and told me to fuck off. He had been mad at me since Wednesday. He seems to be calming down more now but he didn't even want to spend time with me since Wednesday. My friend said it probably pissed him off plus he had to go back to work the next day with broken wrist and pretend he doesn't hate that kid so give him space. Was me laughing really that big of a deal? It was just funny to me because he's 5'11 and I don't get how he got his ass kicked and both his wrist broken by a literal child.

I’m sure it was probably from him defending himself as if he was to hit the kid and kick his ass he would of got fired from his job and probably put in jail. I’m sure that was a super shitty day for him and you saying that was the cherry on top. He probably wanted your support rather then your comments like that. If the roles were reserved I’m sure you’d be just as upset if he said that to you.

He’s a teacher. He’s not allowed to be physical with a child. Not only could he lose his job, he could literally go to jail. 
Teachers have incredibly difficult jobs- especially if they have unruly, aggressive children. A lot of teachers don’t have the support they need for those types of situations and they will sacrifice themselves to keep their other students safe (hence your boyfriend’s literally broken body).
The fact that you show a lock of empathy and compassion for him and his situation shows your immaturity. He should dump you.

First off, I’m a first responder and I’ve seen several adults get hurt by kids even as young as 2nd grade. Having to pull up to a school and go in to help an adult who has been hurt by a child and seeing all the children terrified of what just happened is not something I enjoy nor do I find it funny. Just because they’re a child does NOT mean they can’t hurt you. Kids can do just as much damage as an adult. Yes it may sound crazy but it really does happen and I don’t find it funny at all.
