Oxycodone for miscarriage pain relief

I found out during my 8 week ultrasound that there was no heartbeat & have to made a decision now on waiting for it to pass naturally, taking pills, or going in for a D&C. I was on progesterone (stopped 2 days ago) and was told it may take up to 4 weeks for my body to realize I’m no longer pregnant, so waiting may take a while. My question however is that my doctor prescribed me oxycodone for pain relief and I’m wondering if anyone else has had such a strong medicine prescribed for this. It scares me that the pain can be that bad + I worry about potentially getting hooked on something like that. Is it common to be prescribed oxy for a miscarriage?
