Did you have a OB or a midwife for your birth/ pregnancy? What do you recommend, pros, cons?

I had a midwife when I was pregnant with my son, and have an MD OB/Gyn for this pregnancy. I haven’t noticed a difference in care at all. I can’t speak to how the birth may differ, since I’m still pregnant with number 2. But general prenatal visits and whatnot, care has been identical.

Ive had both & honestly I never noticed a difference in care. Only thing was when I had a c section the midwife couldn’t perform it

I had my first two at the hospital with an OB and I’m 37 weeks with my third and have been seeing a midwife at a birth center and plan to birth there. 
The OB appointments, I felt like just a number. I felt like even though I had the same OB for 2 kids- they still didn’t remember me. I felt like just a number. Also driving for 30 minutes to be rushed in and out and only seeing my OB for 5 minutes of my 15 minute appointment didn’t feel like I was cared for. The care was adequate, and I had two healthy babies but it was very impersonal. 
My midwife appointments are wonderful. They are 45-60 minutes long. It feels like I go in and just get to chat with my friends for an hour about my pregnancy or my other kids. They remember me each visit, and even remember my kids and husband’s names and details about them I’ve shared, like my son loving tball and my daughter potty training. My midwife hugs me each time which is so comforting because I lost my mom last year and my midwife has a very maternal way about her. It’s been so great. I feel like I’m getting more than just adequate care, but I feel like it’s such a loving environment.
And that’s just the differences in prenatal care. I haven’t had my baby yet obviously but
I highly suggest you do your research about hospital vs. birth center birth. Ina mays guide to childbirth is an excellent book. And the happy home birth podcasts has a lot of women that share their experiences going from having a hospital birth versus births at home/ with a midwife. 
But it also depends if your midwife is based in a hospital or at a center.

Have had OBs for all my care and 1st 2 babies my ob delivered their own patients babies so they delivered. 3rd baby same ob as the 2nd baby but she was in an emergency surgery so a midwife from the same practice delivered my baby. For me I felt better having my care by an OB (was covered more by insurance also so bonus) but as I have had easy pregnancies/labors the midwife was great for delivering my baby. For me the big thing was just being in a hospital. My 1st baby I had the easiest pregnancy and a perfect and very easy delivery but had a very very large  hemorrhage right after the placenta came out so beyond happy I was at a hospital because I would have beld out anywhere else. So good ob or good midwife was fine by me as long as I was in a hospital. But my insurance covered much less for a midwife so there was that factor to consider

I have a midwife and I absolutely love her. I prefer her over a OB-GYN. She is a straight shooter and very supportive. She provides her patients with her personal number so she can be reached. She also delivers all of her patients so it’s not whoever’s on call. Like someone else said the one thing she can’t do is c-sections.
