Chuck e cheese birthday

So could someone explained about Chuck E. Cheese;I’m thinking to do my almost 5 year old bday there but since I never went there and no idea how machine works (is it similar to Pojos you have to buy coins?) I was thinking to take $99 package for 6 kids?
