Why did he say such odd things?

What causes someone to say such odd things? Guy friend will/had always felt the need to tell me “that’s not really a real xyz, or “you don’t know what you’re talking about.” Few examples:

Told him I wanted to go check out/ski a Canadian ski resort near me, his reply “that’s not a real resort, Whistler is” or I pointed out to him while driving, a local ski resort in my town and said that’s called Mount Spokane, his reply “that’s not a real mountain, those are just hills”

Posted a throwback picture of a target I shot w/ blackpowder being proud of my bullseye’s, he responded “a black powder gun isn’t a real gun”.

Took him to a neat grocery store/market while he was visiting and said it’s like a mini Whole Foods. While still in the car and not even in the store yet, he quickly replied “no it’s not” and then scoffed.

I’m a former farm kid and grew up with dairy goats. He seems to be in what I call the raw milk cult, where he thinks that’s the only milk that should be drank, tied into white European genetics crap. I mentioned to him how there can be dangers of drinking it if not properly filtered and/or how it’s stored. He replied with “you don’t know what you’re talking about, if it’s sold in stores it’s legit stuff!!” followed by a laughing face emoji.

Why does he say such weird stuff like this? And no he’s not joking or saying it in a joking term, like he’s actually serious. It’s like he feels the need to be always be right or attempt to correct, or say things in a way to make you double guess or bring you down. Is this manipulation? Insecurity? Because I haven’t done or said anything during those moments for him to act that way?? Always been super nice and supportive and it has icked me out to a point I want nothing to do with him if he’s going to be so cocky and feel like he needs to one up when there’s zero competition?
