first sex pain

not sure if it counts as loosing my virginity, but yesterday we tried to have sex with my boyfriend. i’m not sure if my hymen broke, because when he entered fully it hurt like hell, i even droped some tears (edit: i did not bleed). He was very understanding and he said that we can wait with it, or simply try it another time. Yes i was wet enough, yes we used protection. since it was my first time it could’ve been that i was too tight and he was too big, or something else. my main issue is that i don’t know if it will get better the next time. anyone has similar experiences?
