Which pump??

Question

These are the pumps offered through my insurance. I’m a third time mom but this will be my first time breastfeeding. I’m leaning more towards the wearable ones.

I’m currently breastfeeding for the 3rd time, babies 3 and 4, so my first time with twins. For the first two I got the medela in style, I never had any issues. For my second and now the twins I used the medela symphony while in the hospital which is the hospital grade. For the twins I had an IBCLC consult who recommended the spectra and I got the S1. I’m not noticing a huge difference between the medela in style and the spectra S1, but I can tell you fore sure they aren’t hospital grade and don’t compare to the medela symphony. I haven’t tried a wearable because I’ve heard absolutely nothing good about them, I think  the people who like them and successfully use them are few and far between. Since it’s your first time I probably wouldn’t get one because of it doesn’t work for you, you’re stuck with it. I would check with your insurance to see if they would cover the symphony rental with a special script, mine does so I’m able to get that for the twins but it only covers 10 months of the rental vs just outright paying for the lower models, I bought my spectra to use now and I’ll use the rental when I’m closer to going back to work to build my freezer stash.

It’s hard to know which will work best for you. But I’d really recommend a spectra. It’s a pretty standard pump that has pretty good overall results. Wearables can be tricky. For some (like myself) they work really well and for others they don’t. It also really depends on what you want your journey to look like. personally I just pump while I’m at work, so I like my wearable since besides that, I’m nursing regularly. I have a hand pump for when I need it in a pinch and my wearable isn’t charged or just isn’t practical. There are some good websites that provide comparisons of pumps which can help make that decision.

spectra 100%. wearable pumps are not hospital grade and should be used when absolutely needed. they can make your supply drop if you use them consistently

Wearables are nice, but I feel like the suction isn't as strong and effective. You might run into oversupply issues trying to pump with wearbles only because you might need to pump for longer to get the milk out. The Spectra is my pick. Its reliable and efficient in pumping out milk in a shorter period of time.

Spectra S2
It's not wearable, but this has been my go-to two babies in a row. I'm on my third now, and I'm using the Willow 360, which is wearable. I also got the Spectra SG Portable this time, but I will go back to the S2 if the SG doesn't work out.

Spectra is amazing but you can’t do anything when using that pump. More like your stay at home pump and works amazing! I had the momcozy pro and like it as a mobile one!

I highly recommend a baby Buddha. You can get wearable cups for it and they work beautifully

No wearables. IBCLCs do not advise them as they aren’t hospital grade and don’t have the suction as one therefore can easily decrease supply. Spectra is the one I suggest.
