Is it normal to have a US before hcg testing?

I called my OB and set up my first prenatal appointment. I asked to come in earlier to get my blood levels checked and mentioned that I’ve had a miscarriage before and they said it didn’t matter that I still need to wait for my first ultrasound. I just don’t want to experience that disappointment again where I go and they tell me something’s wrong. Which I know is still a risk, but I thought maybe they check hcg first.i have my first appt at 6w5d.
